Sisters who share father meet after 30 year search

PHOENIX -

It was a very happy day for two sisters meeting for the very first time at Sky Harbor Airport after being separated for 50 some years.

Carolyn Canfield, 59, says she's been looking for her elder sister Donna Silvius since she was 13 years old, and she finally found her online. After getting acquainted long distance for 7 months, they decided to meet face to face.

Donna's mother took her away from her father when she was only 3 years old, and she had no idea she had a sister until August of last year. Donna didn't know about her biological father until she was in her mid-20s.

"I'm 74. I'll be 75 in July... and I'm meeting my sister for the first time," says Donna.

Carolyn's father told her to look for Donna before he passed away in 1988.

"It started 30 plus years ago with my father, myself -- her daddy, biological -- and we were looking for her and he got ill and passed away, and he made sure that I promised him that I would never quit and I never did," says Carolyn.

"She called and at first I didn't want to talk to this person so I didn't answer the phone. I thought who is this? She called back and I knew there was something in her voice," says Donna Silvius.

"I called her three times before she called me back," laughs Carolyn.

Carolyn found her sister online after her husband gave her a subscription to ancestry.com. When she found out about Donna, she started saving money to fly to Phoenix from Ohio.
