South Daytona Beach Police took part in Friday morning's raid that landed 49-nine year old Kevin Lynch in jail. A SWAT team found a small arsenal inside the home of the convicted felon. Lynch was busted early Friday morning inside his home on James Street.
Police tell FOX 35 that Lynch had a beer in one hand and a hand gun in the other when a SWATteam went in around 6 a.m. He quickly dropped the weapon.
Kerry Miller lives the next block over and heard two loud bangs before sunrise. "I heard something that sounded like an explosion. I looked out the back door over at the transformer and I just seen some lights flashing."
Lynch is a convicted felon, so when the SWAT team found ten handguns and rifles, ammunition, marijuana, and illegal prescription pills inside his home, they arrested Lynch on the spot. The FBI tells us that Lynch is a member of the Ku Klux Klan and he has been a self-proclaimed white supremacist for the last twelve years.
One neighbor, who did not identify himself, said he has known Lynch almost thirty years. "I've known him the whole time he's been here," he said. When asked if Lynch had been a trouble maker in the past, he replied, "No, it's just trouble finds him," he replied.
Friday's raid was part of an FBI investigation, a safe streets task force with local police officers. The group investigates gang activity.
Police tell us the SWAT team found a Russian assault rifle, guns with serial numbers filed off, a crate full of ammunition and other containers filled with bullets.
Lynch has a previous conviction of resisting arrest with violence. He goes before a judge for a first appearance Saturday morning at the Volusia County Jail. He faces state charges but police say he could face federal charges as the investigation continues.
