Trial an ongoing hardship for Travis Alexander's family

Posted: Updated:

During this trial we've heard a lot from the attorneys -- the expert witnesses – and Jodi Arias herself. But another very visible group has stayed silent.

Travis Alexander's siblings have been in the courtroom every day, and a lot of people are coming forward to show their support.

His family told us there was no doubt they were going to be in court to support Travis. But they also say they didn't expect to be here this long, and they didn't know what kind of a financial burden it was going to be.

Their faces are beamed all over the country every day.

Travis Alexander's siblings are not only enduring the graphic testimony smearing their brother's reputation, but are doing it far from home and at their own expense.

Tanisha Sorenson and her husband Harold own a business in southern California.

They have been away for months and have racked up thousands of dollars in hotel and travel expenses.

Steven Alexander just finished caring for an elderly relative who passed away...

Samantha Alexander is a police officer in Carlsbad, California. She has used up all of her vacation and leave time, and has also spent thousands being here supporting her brother.

But people are helping them out on sites like this -- a Facebook page called "Support Travis Alexander's Family."

Day Pohlkamp lives outside Atlanta. She created the site when she realized what the family was going through.

"They left their jobs, their homes... people don't realize about their mortgages... so they are doing this out of the love for their brother," said Pohlkamp via Skype.

The family is very grateful. Tanisha recently posted this on the site: "Whether it's been support thru these pages, or thru your prayers, or thru sending us donations for our travel expenses, or messages on Facebook, or sending us cards, drawings of Travis... whatever it is that you have done to show us support, I can't even express how many tears have run down my face , even as I write this, because my heart feels so much love from all of you... so much gratitude, so many people who are strangers who I've never met and never will meet here on earth, still showing so much love."

Pohlkamp told us she thinks Samantha emails every single person who sends them a donation.
