Big storm leaves behind big mess

Big storm leaves behind big mess

Posted: Updated:

Monday's storm moved across Arizona more like a monsoon than a spring shower. First, there were high winds and heavy dust, and then scattered rain came. Now, it's cleanup time.

Trees are down, cars and pools are a mess.

A tale of two guys after the storm – the pool guy and the tree guy. Both of them are slammed today.

Rick Ryan's All Valley tree crew received emergency calls from homeowners like this one in east Phoenix. The ash tree in the front yard was blown onto the roof in the storm.

"One of these major branches actually fell and hit the roof… this particular tree caused minor damage, but I've seen trees actually go through the house," says Ryan.

Ryan says homeowners could avoid a lot of tree headaches if they would keep trees trimmed.

Across the valley, CR Mineth's pool people were also running on a fast track today.

Mineth says last January's freeze created an even bigger mess for a lot of pool owners following the wind storm because of more dead vegetation lying around.

"We have a nice big freeze, it kills all the plants. The ficuses are huge, the wind comes along, blows all the leaves in the pools, trashes the pools in a heartbeat."

Mineth's says first get the leaves out of the pool.

"Another three or four days and this pool will be green."

Get the leaves out and pump up the chemicals, because what happened is also a perfect storm for a green pool in a few days if you don't act now.

As for your trees, Rick Ryan says to get them trimmed before monsoon.

The dust storm did more than dirtying up backyards and swimming pools, it also left a lot of cars in need of a good wash.

The dust storm may have made a mess of things, but it also made a lot of cash for those in the car wash business.
