GILBERT, Ariz. -

A 14-year-old boy was arrested for posting threatening messages on Facebook, claiming he would open fire on two schools in Gilbert.

Gilbert police say the teen posted the messages Thursday morning, threatening to shoot up Mesquite Junior High and Mesquite High School.

Students took screen shots of his threats on the social media site and sent them to a resource officer.

There were no evacuations, but officers did step up their patrols at the schools.

The student later posted an apology on Facebook.

Due to boy being under the age of 18, his name was not released to the media.
