DELTONA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

The search for a missing Deltona man has now become a murder investigation, and a woman who lives across the street from the victim has been charged in the killing.

James Sheaffer, 36, was reported missing on April 4.  A limousine driver, Sheaffer was last seen by his father two days earlier.  Detectives said Sheaffer's neighbor, 40-year-old Angela Stoldt, has confessed to killing the man.

The investigation took a turn over the weekend, beginning with a 911 call placed on Sunday by one of Stoldt's relatives, who reported that Stoldt was behaving strangely.

Stoldt initially declined to talk to deputies, but according to investigators, she eventually confessed to stabbing and strangling Sheaffer and then disposing of his body.  Detectives said Stoldt then led investigators to a location where human remains were recovered.

The Volusia Medical Examiner's Office has inspected the remains and has confirmed that they are human.  Now, officials are working to get a positive identification.

Stoldt has been charged with second-degree murder, abuse of a dead human body, and tampering with physical evidence.  She is being held in the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach.
