CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) - An Arizona man has been sentenced to life in prison for causing a crash that killed an 11-year-old boy.

Superior Court Judge Karen Potts sentenced 32-year-old David Wiggins on Friday. He will be eligible for parole after serving 35 years.

Wiggins was convicted of first-degree murder and other charges that stemmed from the 2011 crash.

An undercover officer on patrol at a Chandler bar saw Wiggins spin his wheels and fishtail as he left. The officer turned on his lights and followed Wiggins, who sped through a red light and into oncoming traffic.

Police backed off, but Wiggins' car collided with an SUV a short time later.

Inside the SUV was a father and his two young sons. One of the boys died from his injuries hours after the crash.
