DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

The company that has a Ferris wheel on the Boardwalk in Daytona Beach has begun construction on a roller coaster, the city's first. The object is to bring more tourists to the strip near the Pier, and the tourists we talked to seemed interested.

"It's nice," said Ricky, a visitor from Georgia.  "I mean it's a pretty nice place overall. The place we're staying is pretty good. They need to do a little bit of work here, but it's real nice here."

"I think it would make me more likely to stay because it just gives you one more thing to do while you're down here," said another tourist, Sandy.

The park will spend more than a million dollars adding that roller coaster. They bought it at an auction in Delaware and plan to truck it over in an 18 wheeler from Tampa, then assemble it on site.

The ambitious schedule calls for the coaster to be built right next to the Sling Shot ride by the beginning of August. Watch the video to see Mike Synan ride that Sling Shot.
