90-year-old Central Florida woman mauled by pit bull mix
GENEVA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
A 90-year-old Central Florida woman was mauled by a pit bull-Labrador mix this morning, Seminole County Fire Rescue said.
Seminole County Animal Services responded to a call from the Sheriff's Office regarding the dog bite which took place at a home in Geneva around 10:30 a.m. The woman, who has not been identified, was seriously injured after being bitten in the neck, head, legs and arms, they said.
It was determined the bite may have been inflicted by the neighbor's dog, named Kira, according to an Animal Services officer.
"Kira is a 3 year old, spayed, pit/lab mix which was deemed dangerous by the Animal Control Authority back in April," said Animal Services Manager Morgan Woodward in a statement sent to FOX 35. "Kira was allowed to return home after being declared as 'Dangerous' under Florida Statute 767.12. The dog owner was educated about the requirements to keep a dangerous dog and complied with the certificate of registration for a dangerous dog and paid all applicable fees."
The owner has surrendered the dog to Animal Services, which is now being observed and cared for at the Seminole County Animal Shelter pending the investigation.
The woman was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she was listed in fair condition.
