Record-tying high of 112 expected for Phoenix area

Updated:

PHOENIX (AP) - Record heat is expected for the Phoenix metropolitan area.

The National Weather Service says the projected high temperature for Wednesday is 112 degrees in the Phoenix metro area.

That would tie the record temperature set for that date in 1918 and again in 1974.

An excessive heat watch was issued by the Weather Service for Maricopa County and northern Pinal County because of afternoon highs ranging from 108 to 112 degrees.

Authorities say excessive heat exposure can lead to critical medical conditions such as a stroke, heart attack and even death.
