Downed trees damage homes in Gwinnett, Cherokee counties

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -

Days of heavy rain have soaked the ground, causing weak trees to come down across metro Atlanta.

In Canton, a large tree limb fell on a truck and then toppled onto a home.  Canton's building inspector said the three families that lived in the home had to leave because of the dangers. Claudia Hernandez says she'd just gotten home from work when she heard the tree fall.

Next door, a big limb damaged the home of Dorothy Patterson. She's lived in the 100-year-old house all her life and says she'd never been afraid of the weather here until recently.

Across the metro in Gwinnett County, the heavy weather toppled a big tree onto this home on Kings Ridge Drive, splitting it down the middle. Neither Jay Harmon nor his wife, Liberty, was home when it fell.

Jay Harmon said that another tree had fallen on his property last Thursday, and he's concerned about a third tree.

No injuries were reported in Monday's storms. The Red Cross is helping to get displaces families into hotels.
