Doce wildfire 50% contained; evacuation orders lifted

Posted: Updated:

A wildfire burning west of Prescott has grown slightly in size as authorities have lifted evacuation orders for hundreds of homes.

The 10-square-mile Doce fire grew by about 30 acres from Saturday to Sunday morning. It was 50% contained.  Officials say they expect to have it fully contained by Wednesday.

Authorities had lifted evacuations for some neighborhoods on late Saturday afternoon.

465 homes were evacuated, and all but 18 are being allowed to return home.

Crews attacked the fire Sunday by confronting the blaze in rugged, rocky terrain on the fire's northern flank and by continuing to station firefighters near the previously evacuated homes to guard against any restart in the fire.

The blaze has charred more than 6,700 acres with more than 650 firefighters working to control the flames.

Investigators said the Doce Fire was human caused, but haven't determined the exact source.  So far, no arrests have been made.
