PEORIA, Ariz. -

A 15-year-old girl drowned in Lake Pleasant while trying to save her brother and sister, MCSO said Friday night.

According to Peoria Police spokesperson Amanda Jacinto, three siblings entered the water near the 4-lane boat ramp at Lake Pleasant Friday afternoon.

"Part of the family was still setting up the food, and a 15-year-old girl with her younger siblings.. they decided to go run and play and get into the water," said Jacinto.

Vaverly Dachbar saw her siblings struggling in the water, and knowing they were not good swimmers, she tried to help. While attempting to render aid, she went underwater and didn't resurface.

Witnesses saw the siblings struggling, and ran into the water to help. The witness was able to pull the two children out of the water and onto the shore.

The Good Samaritan was then told of the third child, who never came up for air. An MCSO dive team responded to recover the body and Vaverly Dachbar was located a short time later.

The water was not too deep in that area.
