Home invasion thwarted when suspects were welcomed with gunfire
MELBOURNE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Melbourne police officers said an armed home invasion robbery was thwarted by a homeowner who shot at the suspects.
Officers received a call at 11:41 p.m. Wednesday of four forcefully entering a home on Pepper Avenue. The officers learned that the homeowner fired his handgun at the suspects and one of them may have been shot.
They searched the neighborhood for suspects, but it was an officer waiting at Holmes Regional Medical Center who would find them.
One suspect, Bobby Culler, 25, was dropped off at the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the arm. Culler was arrested for having an active warrant.
Two other suspects were stopped in a vehicle as they drove away from the hospital. One of the men in the vehicle, Leonard Valentine, 17, was arrested and charged with armed burglary and violation of probation.
Investigators said additional charges are pending.
