ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

There is an epidemic of obesity in the United States.  A recent American Heart Association study (PDF) shows more than 157 million Americans, 20 and older, are obese or at the least overweight.  But a relatively new Central Florida medical research facility is working to lower those numbers.

Florida Hospital's Translational Research Institute has facilities only found in a few other places in the nation.

They're called calorimeter chambers.  They can measure how much fat you burn and how your body burns it, without hooking you up to a single instrument.

FOX 35's Tom Johnson shows you how they work and why the research is so important.
