The first day of school can be emotional. 800 kids headed off to Conley Elementary in Chandler Monday. There were a lot of tears, mostly from the parents.
School buses started rolling early this morning. But Erin and Rico Cruz of Chandler walked their daughter to school.
"She is excited but she has been telling us she has butterflies," says Erin Cruz.
Daughter Reilly is going to kindergarten. She will be in Mrs. Blair's class.
She's not alone. 800 kids are heading to school. This teacher is sending her daughter to school for the first time.
"I hate being emotional about it but came pretty quickly. I was fine until she went into the classroom. She wants nothing to do with me," says Kim Kellenberger, teacher and mom.
Cars lined up for miles, dropping kids off in front of Conley Elementary School.
"He's not ready it's a new school but he will be ready. He'll be fine," says Bill Sandillo.
The parents seemed to be more nervous than their kids.
"Just a little nervous I think for all of us, this is our first child, it's a big thing for us," says Wendy Sandillo.
Kids grow up quickly, and the Sandillos want to be there for every big event. The first day of school is a big one
Principal Joe Walters is looking forward to the new school year.
He says the first couple of days are spent getting to know everything about the school. After that it's time to hit the books.
