Victim assaulted with a brick during home invasion

Posted: Updated:

Phoenix police say a paraplegic man who uses a wheelchair was struck on the head with a brick after a group of men armed with guns broke into a home.

Police have taken four men into custody in connection to the late night home invasion near 83rd Avenue and Camelback.

Authorities say the suspects gained entry to the victim's home through an arcadia door, which they had smashed with a brick. Once inside, that same brick was used to hit a paraplegic man in the head. The victim was in a wheelchair.

The 38-year-old man was transported to an area hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Two other adults and three children were also inside the home and held at gunpoint, but were not hurt.

Police say the intruders demanded money and jewelry. After obtaining property from the victims, they fled.

The suspects took off from the scene in a white, 4-door car. Glendale police were able to find that vehicle a short time later in the area of Camelback and 63rd Ave.

There were six subjects inside the car. Two were questioned and let go. The other four were positively identified by witnesses.

Police say evidence of the home invasion and robbery were found inside the vehicle.

Migel Tarin, Rueben Tarin, Francisco Aguilera, and Anthony Arenas were booked into jail on charges of aggravated assault and robbery.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
