FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -

He engaged a woman in conversation while she was walking in downtown Flagstaff -- but his questions were all an act. Minutes later, he would prey on her and sexually assault her.

Sunday morning about 2:30 a.m., Flagstaff Police responded to a call of sexual assault.

The female victim reported she was walking home from downtown, in the area of West Santa Fe and Grand Canyon Ave, when a young man approached her and asked her for directions. He walked with her a short way on Santa Fe.

She gave him the directions he asked for, and turned onto Grand Canyon Ave. A short time later he approached her again with another question -- then grabbed her from behind.

He then sexually and physically assaulted the victim.

Police have located surveillance video of the two walking next to each other.

The man is described as a Native American male, early to mid-20s, 6 feet tall, 200 pounds, with medium-length black hair. He was wearing a gray or light-colored hoodie, pants, and shoes. It's believed he came from the downtown area.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.

TIPLINE: Det. Wotasik at (928) 679-4074, Sgt. Shantz (928) 679-4075, or Silent Witness at (928) 774-6111
