Man brings grenade to Carefree fire station

Updated:

Maricopa County Sheriff's office says a member of the Kiwanis Club brought what he thought was a grenade to a Rural Metro Fire station near Tom Darlington Drive and Cave Creek Road Saturday afternoon.

According to MCSO Spokesman Chris Hegstrom, the man got the item from a friend who moved to another state who wanted to donate a box of stuff to the Kiwanis Club. When the man found the grenade, he brought it to the fire station because he wasn't sure if it was live or inert.

MCSO examined the device and say it is safe, but there is some form of flash or black powder inside.

They're still working to see if the grenade is live or not.
