Detroit Fire Department not reporting available ambulances

LeDuff: Detroit Fire Department not reporting available ambulances

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (MyFox Detroit) -

Well it's official, Detroit. Your fire department is lying to you. Fox 2 has obtained an internal memo which says fire department dispatchers will no longer tell 911 operators that there are no ambulances available. That way, 911 operators can't tell you how long it's going to take to get an ambulance.

Watch Charlie Leduff's full video report above.

"That means you're either going to sit there and wait... and wait... and wait... and you're not going to have the opportunity to maybe find an alternative route or alternative transportation to the hospital," said paramedic Jeff Gaglio.

Fire commissioner Don Austin did not return our calls for comment.
