Teen describes events leading to shooting of baby

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -

A 15-year-old who says he was on the scene when another teenager shot and killed a baby told jurors his story on Thursday.

Fifteen-year-old Dominique Lang, alleged to be an accomplice in the shooting death of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago, says De'Marquise Elkins shot the baby.

Eighteen-year-old Elkins -- who was 17 at the time of the shooting -- is currently on trial for the death of Santiago. Lang, who's charged with murdering Santiago, says even he was surprised when the shooter fired his gun.

Lang testified that Elkins shot the infant after the child's mother – Sherry West – refused to give up her purse. Lang says three gunshots were fired. Lang said that he and Elkins then ran from the scene.

Lang also drew a picture of the gun that he says was used to kill Santiago. He was in seventh grade when the fatal shooting happened.

Minutes before the shooting, Lang says Elkins ran into him and said, "I thought you were a Mexican and I was going to rob you."

During cross examination, defense attorneys alleged that Lang is a liar who is trying to help the state so that prosecutors will go easy on him in his own murder case.
