High School Bans Cheerleading Uniforms In Class

CLEARWATER, Fla. -

Cheerleaders at a Florida High School are being told to leave their uniforms in their lockers during school hours.

Clearwater High School bans sleeveless tops and mini skirts, so that means that the tradition of wearing cheerleading uniforms to class on game day, is history.

The principal of the high school says that since enforcing a stricter dress code two years ago, student incidents have dropped.

But this is the first year the cheerleader uniforms are being targeted at a neighboring high school, Countryside High School.

"On Friday, it's game day, and everybody wears their outfits. Now we don't get to wear it, but it's still fun. After school we still get to share our spirit. We just wish we could during school," says Alexis Fitzgerald, a cheerleader at the school.

School leaders say the uniforms are a distraction in the classroom. One proposal, according to WLFA, is to put a Velcro attachment on the skirts to lengthen them, another is to buy the cheerleaders sweat pants.
