HERKIMER, N.Y. (AP) - Gov. Andrew Cuomo is visiting three upstate New York counties to provide local officials and residents an update on the state's efforts to help them recover from severe flooding earlier this summer.

After stopping Thursday morning in Herkimer County, he was headed west along the Mohawk Valley to Madison County and then to western New York with an afternoon appearance in Lockport in Niagara County.

Administration officials say they issued $13.6 million in state aid checks to 1,206 homeowners, renters, businesses and farmers affected, including 558 checks for $6.6 million in Herkimer County.

A dozen upstate counties suffered damage from severe flooding June 28 through July 4. Herkimer, Madison and Niagara counties were among the hardest hit areas.
