'Jersey Strong,' A New Shore Song

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. -

As the Garden State works to be stronger than the storm, a new, slower country-style jam titled "Jersey Strong" is a song you might start hearing along the shore and beyond.

After the Reign is the winner of the Jersey Shore Soundoff Music competition. They beat out two other finalists after the public voted for their favorite tune. All the members of the band are from New Jersey and were affected by Superstorm Sandy. The songwriter, John Strevens, was inspired to write Jersey Strong ten months ago today.

"I thought everybody will be writing a lot of songs like this and I just started taking notes and it just fell together that quickly," he says.

"Whenever we play it live, it's nuts. Everybody feels it in their heart, everything they went through during the storm. So, yeah, I mean it's touching. It's awesome," says Willy Kelly, the lead singer of After the Reign.

Jersey Strong won't replace the popular Stronger Than The Storm jingle. Instead, it will reinforce what the state is trying to do as it works to fully recover from Superstorm Sandy.

"It represented stronger than the storm and everything that goes along with it. It's incredible. It's an incredible ride every time we go out," says Dave Burlett, a band member.

You can buy the song Jersey Strong on iTunes. Part of the proceeds will go towards Sandy rebuilding efforts.
