DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

The man charged with leading a DeKalb County police officer on a car chase that ended with the officer's death was denied bond at a hearing Wednesday.

He's expected to return to court in November.

Gregory Harvey is charged with felony murder for his role in the death of DeKalb County Police Officer Ivorie Klusmann. The officer was laid to rest on August 16.

Police Chief Cedric Alexander said Officer Klusmann, 31, was responding to a call when his patrol car ran off DeKalb Medical Parkway, near Heritage Park Trail, and hit a tree at 2:45 a.m. on August 10. Minutes earlier, the rookie officer had stopped a vehicle for a traffic stop and then the driver sped off.

Another officer spotted the vehicle and Klusmann was responding to that when he wrecked. Officer Klusmann was deceased at the scene.

Harvey Jr. turned himself into authorities later the same day. FOX 5's Darryl Carver reports that Harvey was awaiting trial as part of a federal corruption probe. He was one of several people charged in February as part of a federal probe into police corruption in metro Atlanta.
