Man 94, has fatal heart attack after carjacking

A 94-year-old Daytona Beach man died during a carjacking Thursday night, authorities say.

Police say Vittario Vecchiarelli suffered a fatal heart attack shortly after a thief took off in his car.  He had pulled into the driveway of his home in the Indigo Plantation subdivision and left his car running while he went to get his mail.  That's when a pickup truck pulled up, a man got out and jumped into Vecchiarelli's 2003 Chevy Cavalier and sped off.

Police say he tried to chase after the vehicle and was dragged about 100 feet.

Neighbors say found on Vecchiarelli on his driveway. He died about 30 minutes later at the hospital.

Vecchiarelli's car, a silver 2003 Chevy Cavalier, was located Friday morning at 100 Powell Blvd. in Daytona Beach.  The pickup truck has not been located.

Police Chief Mike Chitwood says the victim "wouldn't have died if they didn't steal his car."
