The parents of a 14-year-old student who attends Bridges Academy in Winter Springs noticed several hundred inappropriate text messages and emails on her phone last week.
Deputies say the teenager's teacher, Daniel Kelley, is the one who sent the texts. They said the correspondence happened between May and September. Kelley, 26, was arrested Friday afternoon at Bridges Academy.
Deputies don't believe Kelley and the girl ever acted on their fantasies, but there were semi-nude images in the communications.
"Nothing would indicate there was physical activity between the teacher and the student," says Seminole County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kim Cannaday. "However, these communications were extremely inappropriate, and on several occasions, he actually solicited the teenage girl to send nude photos. Fortunately, she did not do that, but she did send him photos that were borderline."
"Based on the information provided to us by law enforcement, the decision was made to terminate Mister Kelley's employment from Bridges Academy," said Bridges Academy Executive Director Jacqueline Egli.
"Bridges Academy conducts criminal fingerprint background investigations on all employees who work for the school. There were no concerns with Mister Kelley's background."
The school and sheriff's office say they have not had any other parents or students come forward with issues with Kelley.
Kelley is charged with transmitting harmful material to a child and obscene communications with a child.
