Marlton Woman Wants Vet Bills Paid For Her Dog Attacked

SOUTHAMPTON, N.J. -

"He wasn't even conscious. He wasn't conscious for days. They had him on all kinds of medications," said Carol Walck. She's talking about her seven-year old Wheaten Terrier named Alfie. She says he used to be a soft, friendly and passive dog. But he suffered a traumatic attack.

"He's very afraid of other dogs and he barks horribly," she told FOX 29.

Carol remembers the day back in May when she says she got a call from the owner of Canine Cottage in Southampton. It's a dog daycare Alfie had been going to for about a year.

"She said he's been attacked and he's having surgery," said Carol. Alfie had been taken to an animal hospital.

Carol recalled, "I'm was hysterically crying. He had over nine puncture wounds and a torn rectum, so he was bleeding. He was bleeding a lot." She says Alfie had been attacked by another dog, a Boxer also attending Canine Cottage. She has vet bills totaling nearly a $1000. Carol says initially the owner of Canine Cottage offered to pay the bill, but Carol admits she first thought the dog's owner should be responsible.

"She said she wasn't going to give me the dog owner's information. She said she didn't want her clients to feel that their dogs are not safe there and that they could be sued," claims Carol who says it was then that she agreed to let the owner pay the bill.

"She just did a 180 and said she wasn't paying the bill and to look at my contract," said Carol.

FOX 29 went to Canine Cottage to talk to the owner who declined to speak on camera but says all clients sign a contract which states that her business isn't liable for many things including injury from another dog.

Carol says she's shocked.

"I don't care about a contract. You cannot excuse yourself from having a person or animal in your care and having something happen to them like that being so traumatized," said Carol.

The owner of Canine Cottage said that her lawyer would contact FOX 29. By the time the story aired, we had not heard from anyone. In the meantime, Carol has filed a complaint in Municipal Court in Southampton Township against the business owner.
