NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, the Democratic nominee for New York City mayor, leads Republican candidate Joe Lhota by a wide margin, a new poll shows.

De Blasio leads Lhota 66 percent to 25 percent among likely voters, according to a Quinnipiac University poll. Independence Party candidate Adolfo Carrion, a former Bronx borough president, polled at 2 percent.

De Blasio also holds huge leads among different racial and ethnic groups. The poll showed him with a 52- to 40-percent lead among white voters, 90- to 3-percent advantage with black voters, and a 68- to 18-percent head start among Hispanic voters

"The same kind of coalition that won Public Advocate Bill de Blasio the Democratic primary is working for him in the general election campaign," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. "He's OK among white voters and gang-busters among black and Hispanic voters."

63 percent of voters have a favorable opinion of de Blasio, with only 21 percent holding an unfavorable opinion.

Lhota, however, has a steep hill to climb with voters because of a negative 30 percent to 35 percent favorability with 32 percent of voters not knowing enough about him to have an opinion.

"Republican candidate Joe Lhota's first job is to simply tell people who he is," Carroll said. "About one third of voters don't know enough to say if they like him or not."

Quinnipiac University surveyed 891 likely voters from September 15 to 18. The poll has a margin of error of +/-3.3 percentage points.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
