Grand Canyon wedding canceled because of potential government shutdown

NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) -

A couple from New Jersey said that just the threat of a government shutdown has caused their wedding plan to be canceled.

Genieve Jeuck and her fiancé, Michael Sallemi, are all ready to get married. They were set to leave Newark Airport Monday night to fly to their destination wedding. They planned on the ceremony to be at a resort in the Grand Canyon.

But things changed last week. The couple was told that because the resort is located in the federally run park, if the government shuts down the resort would also close on their wedding day.

They said they felt blindsided and that it is unfair. They had to have their guests find other hotels and set up an alternate plan.

If the government shuts down it will also impact hundreds of thousands of federal employees who will not get paid. Federal office buildings would also be closed.

Analysts say those in the District of Columbia will feel it far worse than workers in the New York area.
