Running a marathon is quite an achievement, even if you've never run one you can appreciate what a challenge it is.

It's even more challenging if you can't see or use your legs.

Meet some local volunteers who are empowering athletes with disabilities to reach heights they never thought possible

The joy of running is an experience so many people enjoy. for many different reasons. It's a rewarding feeling.

What if you could help someone else experience that joy?

Melissa Wilcox is the president of Achilles International and started the chapter here in Philadelphia. A year ago, she said Achilles' mission was to empower people with disabilities

"When you're here at Achilles you are still able to have a rewarding experience but you're enabling someone else to share that feeling with you," Wilcox said.

Patricia Crebase knows all about doing something she didn't think was possible. A soccer and tennis player growing up Crebase was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at 25

"Having to use a cane and then going to a walker and then a wheelchair it feels like your world is getting smaller and smaller, "Crebase said.

But Achilles gave Crebase wings.

"The big thing for me has really been pushing my boundaries when you have the buddy system you can go farther or fastest." Crebase said. "I've gone through areas of this city that I never would have gone by myself cuz what if that hill is bigger than I expected if I get halfway up it's not like I can get up and walk it.

The athletes show up in Center City around 830 Saturday mornings . After some good natured trash talking they get paired with a guide

Patricia Crebase has committed to participate in the Philly half marathon on November 17. We wish her the best; she's an inspiration to so many.

Any dog owner knows the whine of a dog wanting a treating. However, too many treats and table scraps may have your dog packing on the pounds, and could even threaten their life.
