PHOENIX -

Phoenix Police are investigating after a man riding a bicycle Thursday night veered into traffic only to be hit by a car.

The man was traveling westbound on his bicycle on the sidewalk near 32nd Ave and McDowell.

For an unknown reason, he turned into the roadway in front of a passenger car also traveling westbound on McDowell.

The man struck the windshield and pronounced dead on scene. The driver stopped.

"It is too early to know if impairment was a factor with either party," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos.

The area was closed during the investigation.
