Residents rescued after trees fall on Atlanta homes

ATLANTA -

A tree came crashing into a home in Atlanta on Monday morning, and two people were rushed to the hospital.

It happened on Enota Place, and neighbors say it's not the first time a tree has fallen there in the last couple of years.   They told FOX 5's Tacoma Perry the tree that fell has to be at least 100 years old.

Two women-- a mother and daughter-- were inside the home when the tree fell.  The daughter was able to get out on her own, and fire crews rescued her mother.  Both women were taken to the hospital, but their injuries are said to be minor.

The falling tree caused heavy damage to the home.

At another home on Cascade Road in southwest Atlanta, a man was trapped in his home when a huge tree fell on it.  The man, Warren Head, wasn't hurt, but he said he is lucky to be alive. Head said that he was asleep in a chair when the tree crashed in. Neck surgery has forced him to sleep upright.

"If I had been in the bed, I probably wouldn't be talking to you right now," Head said.

Head's wife was in the den and able to escape unharmed. Head was trapped by the tree branches and had to be rescued by an Atlanta firefighter.

Major damage was done to Head's home, which is now uninhabitable.
