Bus Driver Faces Alleged Sex Assault Charges

CHESTER COUNTY, Pa. -

A school bus driver is facing child sex assault charges. Garnet Valley School District driver Terry Smith is charged with allegedly molesting an eight-year-old several years ago. That alleged victim has finally come forward.

The sexual abuse allegations are nearly a decade old The Garnet Valley school bus driver wasn't a bus driver at that time. Police say the alleged abuse happened at his home and that once he was in custody he admitted to the crime.

Julie Judge is raising her two young girls just feet away from Smith. On Friday, Smith was arrested after being accused of an inappropriate sexual relationship with one of his daughter's friends during a sleep over a decade ago. Julie says she's surprised by the allegations.

"As a mother with 2 young girls living right next door is I'm a little scared and nervous," Judge said. "His wife and children are really good people and nice people. I'd never wish any ill on them because it's not their doing.

With no criminal history, Smith passed the myriad of background checks to become a bus driver for Garnet Valley School district last October.

Krapfs Bus Company confirmed he was also their employee although they never responded to our requests for information. Superintendent Marc Bertrando says it's a frustrating situation

"We put our employees through a pretty rigorous process make sure if there is an issue we know about it. In this particular case we know that this person didn't have a criminal history but there was something in his past no one knew about," Bertando said.

Detectives say they received the first report in April of this year that a young lady was assaulted when she was between 8-10 years-old

Smith is in Chester County Prison, his preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
