Event honors those with pancreatic cancer

ATLANTA -

Friends and family of people impacted by pancreatic cancer came together Sunday night to pay tribute to their loved ones.

The Purple Light Atlanta Vigil is an annual honoring of those fighting and those who have lost the fight against the deadly form of cancer.

During the ceremony, names of both survivors and those who have passed away from pancreatic cancer were read while family and friends illuminated a purple light in honor of each.

The Purple Light Vigil is part of a nationwide event taking place in communities across the country.

The event serves as an early opening to Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month which is in November. The month culminates with the PurpleStride which is a 5K Times Run or Family Friendly Walk. That is being held in Centennial Olympic Park on Nov. 9.

For more information on either event or for more on pancreatic cancer visit the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network website at pancan.org.
