Detroit's mayoral candidates make final push

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) -

Both candidates turned to the streets for some last-minute campaigning Monday afternoon.

Fox 2 caught up with Sheriff Benny Napoleon at the new Meijer in Detroit on Eight Mile Road.

"If you want to be safe in this city - I'm your guy. I'm the person that you should go pull that lever for," he says.

Mike Duggan and his supporters held signs and talked to voters at Harper and Cadieux during rush hour.

"If you're tired of living in the dark because the street lights don't work, and if you're tired of living in fear because the cops don't show up, and if you're tired of living in blight because nobody deals with the abandoned houses, if you vote for me my record is turning things aruond and getting 'em fixed," says Duggan.

Current polls have Duggan in the lead. Voter turnout has been projected to be as low as 20 - 25%.

Napoleon is frank about the number of votes he needs to win: "If we have a big turnout I win; a lot turnout I don't."

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. on Election Day which is Tuesday, November 5.
