An Orlando woman has discovered that sandals can be life-changing especially when that life has been effected by poverty and natural disaster.
Julie Colombino founded REBUILD Globally after the earthquake that devastated Haiti in 2010. Over the past three years, she has employed Haitian artisans who have learned to make flip flops by hand out of recycled tires. She says they are doing more than making shoes.
"Because of their jobs have gotten out of the tent camps, bought their own property, built their own houses, taken their kids out of the orphanages," Colombino said.
REBUILD Globally also works to educate children in neighborhood around their workshop in Port-Au-Prince.
