SMYRNA, Ga. -

There are new developments in the case of a woman who was murdered outside a Smyrna restaurant.  Police say two people have been charged in the case, and that a third suspect died after the crime.

Investigators say the three robbers showed no mercy for Ebone Driskell, whom they gunned down as she and a male friend walked to their car.  Driskell was the first murder victim in Smyrna this year, and according to police, the scene was especially gruesome.

Police say Driskell and her acquaintance were ambushed and robbed on their way to their car at Doc's Food and Spirits on Cumberland Boulevard.  Driskell had a gun in her purse, and she surprised the robbers by pulling it and firing one shot at one of the suspects on the driver's side of the car.  He was fatally wounded, but another suspect shot and killed Driskell before fleeing the scene in her 2003 Ford Taurus.  The male friend Driskell was with wasn't hurt.

Driskell's car was found behind the Golf Warehouse on Spring Street, about a half mile away from Doc's.  Evidence in the car led authorities to the suspects.

Investigators charged 22-year-old Renee Harris and 44-year-old Isadore Barboza with the crime.  They say Barboza pulled the trigger, killing the 32-year-old mother.  The body of the third suspect, Quondre Bentley, was found in Driskell's car.

Police say the motive was robbery, and they believe at this point it was a random crime.
