Handyman stole $70K in jewelry and cash from homeowner, police say
SANFORD, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Sanford police say a handyman was recorded on a surveillance camera stealing from a homeowner.
Philip Liles, 53, of Lake Mary, is accused of entering the home and taking a safe key which was used to steal money from inside the safe.
The homeowner gave investigators permission to conduct surveillance from inside the home. According to police, Liles was caught a second time stealing money from inside the safe. This time, officers were waiting for him.
Approximately $70,000 dollars' worth of jewelry, cash, and other miscellaneous items were stolen from the homeowner. Some of the stolen items were recovered at local pawn shops.
Liles is charged with 15 felonies and 2 misdemeanors including burglary, dealing in stolen property, and grand theft.
