DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

Thursday was the preliminary hearing for Abraham Pearson, the prisoner who escaped back in September. The deputy that was allegedly stabbed and the woman he allegedly carjacked took the stand.

Wayne County Sheriff's Deputy Harrison Tolliver was transporting four prisoners to the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice downtown. One of those prisoners, 25-year-old Abraham Pierson, was to be sentenced for a carjacking. But on that day, September 9, police say he had other plans.

Pierson escaped from the courthouse and led police on a 14-hour manhunt that included a carjacking and a hit and run, police say. But before Pierson escaped, it's alleged he began the elaborate stunt by attacking Tolliver.

"I uncuffed the right-hand cuff; as I uncuffed that right one he came around with what looked like a black knife, [black]-handled knife it looked like to me real quick, and slashed me one time under the ear," Tolliver says in court. This is the first time he's spoken publicly about the incident.

That knife was a comb that Pierson had sharpened and turned into a shank.

"As he came around I kept slapping his hands, trying to stop him. He was still landing punches and stabs at me," Tolliver remembers. "He might have even said my name at one point: 'Don't make me kill you, Tolliver. Don't make me kill you!'"

Pearson forced the deputy out of his uniform, stole his cell phone and radio, and took off towards the old police station where he ran into Patricia Banfor, whom he's suspected of carjacking.

Banfor also spoke in court today.

Pearson took off in her minivan and eventually slammed into another woman's vehicle. He got away again and was on the loose until he was captured hours later, after a man spotted him and tipped off authorities.

Pearson has been bound over for trial.
