University of Central Florida researchers just made a major announcement about sea turtle conservation efforts.
The school's Marine Turtle Research Group is in its last few weeks counting sea turtle nests in Brevard County. They have discovered a startling jump in the number of nests for endangered green sea turtles.
When research started in the 1980s, they found just 32 nests. Two years ago, they logged a record of more than 5,000, and this year, the number leaped to nearly 12,000 green sea turtle nests. The team credits federal laws that protect the turtles and their nests.
