A suspect wanted for allegedly stabbing his mother's boyfriend and kidnapping his 6-year-old nephew was arrested on Sunday night.

Police found a 55-year-old man stabbed several times in the torso at a home in the 1100 block of East Bisnaga Street.

He was taken to a Phoenix area hospital where he was treated and released.

Family members told police that the suspect, 40-year-old Angelo Martinez, was upset about an earlier incident and allegedly stabbed his mother's boyfriend who was trying to calm him down.

Police say Martinez fled into the nearby desert with his 6-year-old nephew.

Officers were able to follow his path into the desert, finding a knife they believe was used in the stabbing along the way.

Shortly afterward, officers found the little boy hiding underneath a tree.

He wasn't injured and was returned to his family.

Officers surrounded the area and found Martinez hiding in a nearby neighborhood.

Martinez was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping, child abuse and criminal damage.
