Study: Sugary Drinks Could Have Negative Effects On Brain

Posted: Updated:

New research finds that drinking too many sugary drinks can not only hurt your waistline but also affect your mind as well.

Experts warn that drinking too many fizzy, sugary drinks, like soda, can damage the brain. Research suggests that long-term consumption of sweetened drinks leads to hyperactivity.

The long term effects also alters the protein chemistry in the brain, causing changes similar to what scientists see in Alzheimer's disease and even cancer.

The study, done by Macquarie University in Sydney, compared rats drinking water for a month to rats drinking sugared water with the same concentration of sugar as soft drinks.
