Navy kickbacks schemer from Ga. to be sentenced

Posted: Updated:

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Georgia man who pleaded guilty for his role in an $18 million kickback scheme that targeted the U.S. Navy is due to be sentenced in federal court in Rhode Island.

Patrick Barry Nagle, of Marietta, Ga., is scheduled for a hearing Friday afternoon before U.S. District Judge Mary Lisi.

Nagle worked for a Georgia-based Navy contractor, Advanced Solutions for Tomorrow, or ASFT, that gave kickbacks to a civilian Navy employee and others. Nagle signed off on payments to subcontractors that submitted inflated invoices. ASFT also had offices in Middletown. It went out of business after the scandal came to light in 2011.

Six people have pleaded guilty in the scheme, which went on for 15 years. Nagle is the third person to be sentenced.
