Mystery Good Samaritan comes forward after saving woman

PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

A mystery man helps save a woman who was trapped inside a vehicle, but then disappeared -- so officers put a picture of the crash scene on Facebook in hopes of finding the hero and it worked!

The Good Samaritan took off from the scene before police were able to talk to him.  He used a belt to form a tourniquet and saved the victim's life.

19-year-old Lucas Robinson was at work when he heard the crash.

"I just kind of instinctively saw someone in need and ran to the car accident and helped any way I could," he said.

73-year-old JoAnn Lang's vehicle had flipped and landed on her left arm.

"I took my belt off when I was running to her and I asked her, can I put a tourniquet on your arm and then I wrapped it up as tight as I could," said Robinson.

He was able to stop the bleeding and talked with Lang until paramedics arrived.

"I was just saying ma'am, it is going to be alright.  I am here to help.  My name is Lucas, just stay with me."

After the crash, Robinson went back to work before police could talk to him.

In an attempt to track him down, police and FOX 10 posted the photo on Facebook Monday night.  Robinson saw it and gave us a call.  After the crash, he was under the impression the victim had died.

"It was weight lifted off my shoulders to be honest with you," he said.

At John C. Lincoln Hospital Tuesday, for the first time, Robinson met with JoAnn's husband, Leon Lang.

Leon told him, "You saved her life, you know."

Lang lost part of her arm, but survived.

"Every time she thinks about what happened, she starts crying," said Leon.

JoAnn's doctors say thanks to Robinson's belt, she is still alive.

"When she came to us, it actually wasn't bleeding, which means the tourniquet worked.  It did what it was supposed to do.. to keep someone from bleeding to death," said Dr. Francis Aliosman.

As for Robinson's belt, "She didn't want him to get away again, so she wants to give him the belt herself," said Leon.

So they are now figuring out a time when Robinson and JoAnn can meet in person.

Ironically, Robinson is getting ready to join the Army and Leon spent more than 20 years in the Army.  JoAnn is also very involved in military charities.
