The Chicago Cubs will move into their new spring training stadium this March we're getting our first look inside.
Up until now, the Cubs have played at Hohokam Park near Center and Brown. The new stadium will be next to the Mesa Riverview off the Loop 101 and Loop 202.
The new facility, known as "Cubs Park," will probably look a little familiar to anyone who has ever been to Wrigley Field.
"I think it was really important for the Cubs to honor some of the Wrigley Field traditions both in the design and the way we approach things here," said the Cubs' spring training General Manager Justin Piper.
Things like the familiar light standards, the brick wall behind home plate and look above the scoreboard and you'll see a replica of the iconic clock.
On game days, this stadium will hold up to 15,000 fans, not just in the seats, but also a huge party deck that can be rented out for groups.
We also got a look inside the clubhouse, where players suit up before heading to the field.
"We want to draw people from outside the state of Arizona and the valley to experience the city of Mesa and everything around here and the businesses," said Piper.
Businesses like nearby Portillo's Hot Dogs, a Chicago institution that opened up a few months ago, only a few blocks away from the new stadium
I showed Jamie Fisher, Portillo's assistant manager and Chicago native some of our pictures from inside the stadium.
"It looks like they're building a little Wrigley Field which is gonna be fun," said Fisher. "Who knows, maybe they'll throw up some ivy on the back walls there too -- bring a little bit of Wrigley Field home."
