Fatal crash closes Ronald Reagan Parkway

Ice blamed in Reagan Parkway crash that killed 1, injured 4

Posted: Updated:

The westbound lanes of Ronald Reagan Parkway near Five Forks Trickum Road were closed for several hours Monday following a fatal crash. Authorities believe ice on the roadway may have been a factor in the collision that involved a total of five vehicles.

Gwinnett County authorities say three vehicles were heavily damaged in the crash, which happened just before 7 a.m. on Monday. Officials say one of the drivers died on scene as a result of the accident and a child was transported to Children's Healthcare at Scottish Rite in critical condition.

According to police, a white car traveling east hit a patch of ice losing control. The car collided with pickup truck traveling east. Authorities say the two vehicles crossed the median, striking another vehicle head-on in an oncoming lane.

Authorities say the adult driver of the pickup truck died as a result of his injuries. A child passenger in the pickup truck was flown to Scottish Rite for treatment of critical injuries.

Three people from the white car that first lost control were transported with minor injuries. Two other vehicles sustained damage in the wreck, though no people in those other two vehicles were injured.

Police have not issued any citations in the crash as they continue to investigate.
