GLENDALE, Ariz. -

Authorities say a Glendale man is dead after a crash involving an on-duty Maricopa County Sheriff's Office deputy.

Glendale Police say the deputy was driving on 59th Avenue near Northern in an unmarked vehicle at about 1 p.m. Monday.

Sgt. Jay O'Neill says the male driver of the Nissan in this collision succumbed to his injuries at an area hospital.  He was identified as 63-year-old John Edward Harding.

Authorities say it appears Harding turned his car in front of the deputy's vehicle.

The deputy's name is Sean Pearce and he is a 20 year veteran with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, stated O'Neill.  He was taken to a hospital and police say his injuries aren't life-threatening.

Both drivers were the only occupants of their vehicles.

Police say speed and impairment don't appear to be factors in the crash.
