NY's fancy hot chocolate

Ah, the sound of frothy milk steaming in the winter. Mix that with some of the world's finest cocoa powder and Voilà: you have one mean cup of hot chocolate. Connoisseurs of the drink say New York has some of the finest hot cocoa in the world.

We went to Marie Belle in SoHo where we hear there hot chocolate is a must taste. David Cando spilled the recipe: one quarter powder, one quarter hot water, steam it in the machine, and sure the chocolate is melted. Finally, the chocolaty goodness is poured into an elegant cup.

Next, we headed to the Upper West Side to Jacques Torres where you can add everything from peppermint to homemade peanut butter and orange marmalade to your creamy cocoa concoction.

But customers say don't try it at home.

And even long islanders are cuckoo for cocoa. Fresco Creperie and café has been voted one best hot chocolates on the island. Claudia Corcione says the café uses a lot of steamed milk and Belgian dark chocolate. Then the hot chocolate is topped with whipped cream and chocolate melted into a sauce.

The hot cocoa at all of these spots starts at about $4 and is a perfect companion to the cold holiday weather.
