Mummers Ready To Strut Their Stuff

PHILADELPHIA -

Now that the fireworks are over, it's time for a Philadelphia tradition.

It wouldn't be New Year's Day without the mummers strutting their way up Broad Street! The parade, now in its 114 year, is a big part of starting the New Year in the city.

The fun kicks off at 10 a.m. But many people get out early to find a perfect spot to watch the comics, string bands and fancy brigades march by.

Crews worked late into the night marking street closures and setting up bleachers.

In just a few hours those bleachers and the streets will be packed with hundreds of thousands of onlookers.

Out there with the Mummers getting ready Wednesday morning is FOX 29's Steve Keeley, who is live in South Philadelphia.

WATCH LIVE: "Good Day Philadelphia," 4:25-10 a.m.

Motorists should be aware that Broad Street will be shut down from Oregon Avenue all the way to City Hall with set performances at Broad and Shunk, Broad and Washington, Broad and Pine, and Broad and Sansom.

Expect the roads to be closed early in the morning and well after the last event for clean up.
